How does financial planning work?

Financial planning is a journey, not an event.

It takes time and commitment from you as well as us.  Together we will go through six stages outlined below:

STAGE 1Getting to know where you are now
Like all journeys, you need to know where you are before you start.  We’ll ask you about your income and expenses, what you own and what you owe - so we understand your financial position.

STAGE 2Understanding your goals
We’ll ask you where you want to be with your lifestyle and your money.  We’ll help you refine and prioritise your goals.  This stage may be challenging as you decide what you want and when you want it by.  Can you have it all?

STAGE 3Appreciating your financial concerns and problems
We are all different and you will have your own values, opinions and ideas about money.  We need to understand your views so that we can make appropriate recommendations.

STAGE 4Developing alternative strategies and recommendations
Often there is no one best solution.  We will look at a number of ways for you to reach your goals and recommend what we think are the most appropriate actions to take.  We will present you with a written report and explain our recommendations.  We encourage you to take time to think about your financial plan.  Together, we can refine the plan to make sure it suits you.

STAGE 5
Putting the plan into action
The best plans in the world are useless unless you put them into action.  We will work with you to implement the plan.

STAGE 6 Staying on track
Planning is all about the future and the future is full of unknowns – your situation, laws and regulations, investment markets, products and so on.  A financial plan needs to be “alive”.  It needs to be reviewed and adjusted to make sure you keep getting closer to your lifestyle and money goals.
